The Global Power and Energy Exhibition (GPEX) will partner with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) to pursue a cross-sectoral energy transition.
GPEX will take place from 17-20 September 2018 at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain, and will see international stakeholders from the energy and power sector to discuss concrete frameworks and pathways to pursue a cross-sectoral energy transition, towards a clean and modern system. Government Europa will act as a media partner for the event.
One of UNECE’s core areas of focus is sustainable energy, meaning that the organisation is particularly invested in this transition. In recognition of this, the director of UNECE’s sustainable energy division, Scott Foster, will deliver a speech at the GPEX Leaders’ Summit on 17 September, and many of the high-level stakeholders attending GPEX are expected to attend UNECE’s Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, taking place in Kiev, Ukraine on 12-15 November.
How will GPEX support the energy transition?
GPEX will gather public and private stakeholders from the energy and power sector – including senior decision-makers from both leading industry organisations and emerging disruptors – to participate in a high-level programme, which will facilitate enhanced networking and the creation of new partnerships, and offer learning opportunities.
Through its partnership with UNECE, GPEX aims to ensure that the highest level industry experts attend the event and participate in the conversations that will take place, so as to drive the sector’s transformation towards clean and renewable energy. Part of this cross-sectoral energy transition will require the improvement of renewable energy generation technologies, which can be achieved by the financing of new projects with public and private funding, as well as supportive regulation and policies.
Other priorities for GPEX include the modernisation of energy and power infrastructure, and the adaptation of infrastructure to cleaner energy sources, to improve efficiency and avoid unnecessary waste throughout the system. The event will offer stakeholders who are under pressure to support the clean energy transition the opportunity to do so in a variety of ways.
